J.D. Haynes

ASHEVILLE James Donald J.D. Haynes, 86, of 138 Whitney Drive passed away Sunday, April 4, 2010 at the Asheville VA Medical Center. Mr. Haynes was a native and resident most of his life of Buncombe County. He retired in 1989 from Morgan Brothers School Supplies, was a member of Sunrise Baptist Church for over 25 years, and was a proud veteran of WWII having served in the U.S. Navy where he participated in the Normandy Invasion at Omaha Beach. Mr. Haynes was a son of the late William Henry Haynes and Emma Burleson Haynes and husband of June Ophelia Lance Haynes who died October 19, 2004. He was also preceded in death by his son, Gary Haynes; grandsons, Chad and Kevin; three brothers and two sisters. Surviving are his sons, Ken Haynes & wife Teresa of Weaverville and Donnie Haynes & wife Nancy of Swannanoa; daughter-in-law, Sheila Zachary of Brevard; grandchildren, Chris, Jeff, Trina, Keith, Karen, Haley and Jared; great grandchildren, Sierra, Hunter, Dylan, Mya, Chase, Ethan, Keiven and Fisher; brother, Carroll Haynes of Arden; several nieces and nephews who were very special to him. Funeral services will be held 11 A.M. Wednesday at Sunrise Baptist Church with Rev. Bill Higgins officating. Burial will follow in Forest Lawn Memorial Park with military graveside rites to be conducted by the Buncombe County Veterans Council Memorial Team. The family will receive friends 7 to 8:30 P.M.
