Irene Houg

Fletcher Irene Marcella McElwain Houg, 91, passed away Wednesday, January 25, 2012 at Universal Health Care. A native of Lewistown, MT, she had resided in Asheville since 1979. She was a member of St. Marks Lutheran Church since 1979 and a former member of the Extension Home Maker. Mrs. Houg was a former Secretary to the Administrator of St. Anthony Hospital in Columbus, OH and previously served as Executive Secretary for 20th Century Life Insurance Company. Mrs. Houg was the daughter of the late Robert H. McElwain and Emma Ness McElwain Urness and wife of Norman Lee Houg who died October 14, 1989. She was also preceded in death by a son, Robert Wayne Houg. Surviving are her daughters, Marilyn Moore and Barbara Grosvenor and husband Terry; son, Larry Houg and wife Sharon Houg; several grandchildren and great grandchildren. Funeral services will be held 2 P.M. Saturday in the chapel of Anders-Rice Funeral Home with Rev. William Seth Gibson officiating. Burial will follow in Green Hills Cemetery.
