Black Mountain Horace Lee Worley, Sr., 75, passed away Saturday, December 31, 2016 at the St. Joseph Campus of Mission Hospitals. A lifelong resident of Buncombe County, Mr. Worley retired from the US Postal Service following 41 years of service. He was a longtime member of Biltmore Baptist Church, and was an Aviation Mechanic in the US Navy during the Cuban Missile Crisis. He was a man of God, who thoroughly enjoyed fishing, playing golf, and spending quality time with his family. Mr. Worley was the son of the late Melgar Lee and Rose Angel Worley, and the husband of Helen Glenn Worley, who passed away May 2, 2010. He was also preceded in death by two sisters: Claudette Lee Reynolds and Carolyn Jean Worley. Surviving are his children: Horace Lee Worley, Jr. of Lake Norman, and Sherrie Lynn Worley of Fletcher; sisters: Dianne Rose Joyner of Arden and Nancy Sue Worley and Judy Ann Worley of Asheville; brother, Barry Melgar Worley of Fletcher; nephews: John Michael Joyner and Christopher Scott Joyner, both of Arden; and niece, Debbie Jean Holmes of Glencoe, AL. A Celebration of Life service will be held at 4:00 PM Thursday in the chapel of Anders-Rice Funeral Home, with the Rev. Carroll Melton officiating. The family will receive friends following the services. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Parkinsons Disease Foundation, 1359 Broadway, Suite 1509, New York, NY 10018.
