Hilda M. Williams

Asheville – Hilda Marie Looney Williams, 92, of Ballantree, went to be with the Lord Monday August 17, 2020. A native of Shelby, she grew up in Kannapolis and resided in Nebraska, Alaska and Maryland before moving to Asheville in 1974. She served as a Teacher’s Assistant in Special Education for 17 years with the Buncombe County Schools, was a cosmetologist, knew Sign Language and was active with the NC Association of Teacher Assistants. She was a daughter of the late George Cecil Looney and Ocie Elma Navey Looney, and was the wife of Henry Ralph Johnson who died in May of 2008 and second husband, Robert Lane Williams who died June 4, 1995. She was also preceded in death by her brother and sister-in-law Cecil and Barbara Looney; special friend for 16 years, W.D. Metcalf who died in May of 2013, and her special grand dog “Kane”. Surviving are her son Robert Douglas “Doug” Williams and wife Lisa of Woodbridge, VA; grandchildren Amanda Bryce Colton and husband Wesley of Broomfield, CO and Matthew Philip Williams and wife Melanie of Portland, OR; great grandchildren Bryce, Mina, and Nash; brother, Rev. Kenneth Ray Looney and wife Connie and 6 nephews. Funeral services will be held at 1 PM Friday, August 21, 2020 in the chapel of Anders-Rice Funeral Home, with the family receiving friends immediately following services at the funeral home. A service of committal and entombment will be held at 1 PM Saturday, August 22, 2020 at the Carolina Memorial Park in Kannapolis.
