Hester Metcalf

July 20, 1927 — May 23, 2016

Banner Elk - Hester Geneva McFee Metcalf, 88, passed away Monday, May 23, 2016 at the Life Care Center of Banner Elk. A native of Buncombe County, Mrs. Metcalf was formerly employed as a machine operator with American Enka, and was a member of Pole Creek Baptist Church. Mrs. Metcalf was the daughter of the late Kenny Blaine and Ada Reed McFee, and was the wife of the late George Metcalf. She was also preceded in death by her sisters: Juanita Carr and Sereptha Fish; and brothers: Coyle and Doyle McFee. Surviving are her daughter, Janet Metcalf West and husband Randy Wright of Leicester; grandchildren: Nathaniel West, Heather West, and Elizabeth Sheppard; great-grandchildren: Haley Jones, Colby Alred, Stephen Taylor, Nathaniel West, Jr., and Shawn West; brothers: Roy McFee and wife Mentha of Newland and Tommy McFee and wife Cora of Mountain Home; and numerous nieces and nephews. Graveside services will be held at 3:00 PM Friday at Snow Hill United Methodist Church Cemetery, with Chaplain Lonnie Barnes of Medi Home Hospice officiating. The family would like to extend a very special, heart-felt Thank You to the staff of Medi Home Hospice, for the love and support Mrs. Metcalf received while under their care. They would also like to thank the staff of Life Care Center of Banner Elk for their care of Mrs. Metcalf. Anders-Rice Funeral Home is assisting Mrs. Metcalfs family.
