Herman E. Kennedy Jr.

Mount. Airy - Herman E. Kennedy, Jr., 80, passed away unexpectedlySunday, December 18, 2011 at his residence. A native of Siler City, NC, he was a son of the late Herman E. Kennedy, Sr. and Edna Jordan Kennedy. He was also preceded in death by his sisters, Margaruite Brissett and Helen Neher, brother-in-law, Glenn Neher. Mr. Kennedy was a veteran of the U.S. Army during the Korean War and was of the Baptist faith.His hobbies were gardening, growing Azaleas, cooking and hunting. He was a graduate of Oak Ridge Military Academy and North Carolina State University. He was a Civil Engineer for 35 years. Surviving are his loving and devoted wife of 54 years, Jeanette Reese Kennedy; daughters, Deborah (Scott) Martin, of Pilot Mountain, NC and Carla (David) Harold, of Mount Airy, NC; son, Timothy R. Kennedy of the home; 6 grandchildren, Josh (Tiffany) Hiatt of Advance, NC, Hannah (Jody) Edmonds of Mount Airy, Matt (Ashley) Hiatt of Mount Airy, Jennifer (Chris) McNeilus of Mebane, NC, Ben Harold of Mount Airy and Charles Harold of Raleigh; 5 great-grandchildren; brother, John (Mary Alice) Kennedy of Siler City; sister, Hilda (Earl) Short of Siler City; brother-in-law, Roland (Bonnie) Reese of Weaverville; sister-in-law, Zora (Bob) Hays of Weaverville; special long time friends, Edd and Paula Buchanan of Black Mountain. Graveside services and burial will be held Tuesday, December 20 at 1 PM at Grandview Baptist Church Cemetery with Rev. Steve Greene officiating.
