Asheville - Herbert G. Hagan, 85, of 89 Trotter Place, passed away Tuesday, October 25, 2005 at St. Joseph Hospital following a period of declining health. A native of Madison County, he had resided in Buncombe County since 1926. He served with the U.S. Army Air Corps. in England during World War II and was stationed at Alcanbury Air Field when the war ended. He retired from American Enka after 39 years of service. In his early years, Herbert was a truck driver for Henson Produce and also worked for the City of Asheville. He was a loving and devoted husband, father and grandfather, and a friend to all who knew him. Herbert was the son of the late Loran Vance and Lottie Mae Smith Hagan. He was also preceded in death by his loving wife, Joyce Kitching Hagan and seven brothers and sisters. Surviving are two sons: John Hagan and wife Cathy of Marshall, VA and Jerry Hagan and wife Carol of Arden; six grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be held at 11 AM Friday in the chapel of Anders-Rice Funeral Home, with Chaplain Charles Carter, U.S. Navy, Retired, officiating. Burial will be in Forest Lawn Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 6-8 PM Thursday at the funeral home. The family would like to express gratitude to the staff of The Laurels of Greentree Ridge for the kindness and caring shown to Herbert during his brief stay. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Salvation Army, PO Box 1778, Asheville, NC 28802.
