Herbert Elmore Elkins Sr.

Asheville - Herbert Elmore Elkins, Sr., 109, of 9 Mountain View Road, died Monday November 11, 2002. A lifelong resident of Buncombe County. He was an electrical contractor for over 75 years, was a WW I Army Veteran and was of the Baptist faith. He was a son of the late William Cornelius and Finetti Buckner Elkins. He was the husband of Florence Bradford Kent Elkins for 75 years, who died June 14, 1997 and was also preceded in death by a daughter, Frances Kent Stanley and a sister, Bessie Elkins Noland. Surviving are his daughters, Edith Cecile Travis and husband, Ray of Candler, Betty Jean Williams of Asheville and Joyce Gwendolyn Crisp and husband, Landford of Skyland; son Herbert Elmore Elkins, Jr. and wife, Opal of Candler; 15 grandchildren, 35 great grandchildren and 42 great great grandchildren. Funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday in the chapel of Anders-Rice Funeral Home with the Rev. Aaron Phillips and Mr. Ray Travis officiating. Burial will be in Pisgah View Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 1 to 2 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.
