Asheville - Helen Bonner Eshelman, age 88, of Givens Estates, died Wednesday, May 11, 2005 at Hospice Elizabeth House in Flat Rock. She was born in High Point, NC, daughter of the late Helen Hooker Bonner and John Alfred Eshelman. She was a graduate of UNC Greensboro. She was a registered dietitian, a member of the American Dietetics Association and the State and National School Food Service Association. After serving three years as Hospital Dietitian and two years in Australia, New Guinea, and the Philippines with the US Army during World War II, she was the Director of School Food Service for Rowan County Schools. After retirement, she lived at Lake Junaluska, NC. She was a member of Skyland United Methodist Church. Survivors are a nephew, Dr. Fred N. Eshelman of Wilmington, NC; and two great nieces: Kimberly Eshelman of Wilmington and Ashley Lane of California. A memorial service will be held in the Thomas Coke Chapel at Givens Estates at 3:00 PM Friday May 13, 2005 with the Rev. Joe Fulk, Jr. and Rev. Arnie Corriher officiating. Memorials may be made to the Givens Estates Supplemental Assistance Fund, 2360 Sweeten Creek Road, Asheville, NC. 28803 or to a favorite charity.
