Hazel Irene Penland

Asheville Hazel Irene Ward Penland, 76, of 224 Westwood Place, went to be with her Lord on Sunday, March 26, 2017 at the John F. Keever, Jr. Solace, Center. A lifelong resident of Buncombe County, she had retired from Great Smokies Hilton Inn and was a member of Trinity Baptist Church in Asheville. Mrs. Penland was the daughter of the late Hilliard David Ward and Grace Helen McGhee Brown and was the wife of Lawrence Wesley Penland who died January 3, 2008. She was also preceded in death by her son, Terry Wesley Penland who died July 3, 1989 and her brother, Hilliard Vestal Ward who died May 23, 2008. Surviving are her granddaughter, Tabitha Krystal Penland and great grandson, ZyKari Demarco Penland both of the home; sister-in-law, Ruby Parker Ward of Asheville. Funeral services will be held at 1 PM Thursday, March 30, 2017 at the Trinity Baptist Church Chapel with Pastor Allen Rash, Pastor Donnie Walker and Pastor Doug Guy officiating. Burial will follow in Green Hills Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 12 to 1 PM Thursday at the church.
