Hattie S. Baldwin

June 9, 1944 — December 20, 2005

West Asheville Hattie Mae Surrett Baldwin, 61, of 11 Scottsdale Drive went to be with her Lord Tuesday, December 20, 2005 at Memorial Mission Hospital following a brief illness. A lifelong resident of Buncombe County. She was a daughter of the late John and Sally Clark Surrett. She retired in 1997 from CP&L following 33 years of service and at the time of her retirement was serving in the Human Resource Department. Hattie was currently employed with the N.C. Cooperative Extension Service Buncombe County Center as a County Secretary. She was a member of the Church of the Redeemer for 31 years and served as an Extension Secretary working with Horticulture and Master Gardner Programs. Surviving are her loving husband of 29 years, Marvin Baldwin of the home; daughters, Laura Baldwin Weber and husband, Jerry Dean Weber and Amy Baldwin Shroyer and husband, Darrell Lynn Shroyer; grand daughter, Paige Weber; grandson, Keith Weber and sister, Sue Boyd all of Asheville; nephews, Kenneth Baldwin of Cary, Eric Baldwin of Charlotte, Jason Baldwin of Boulder, CO and Christopher Boyd of Asheville. A Requiem Mass and Celebration of her life will be held at 2 p.m. Friday at Grace Episcopal Church with Father Alexander Hanks officiating. A reception will follow services at the church in the Parish Hall. Those who knew Hattie knows she loved people and demonstrated her love for others through her giving spirit. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the Asheville-West Rotary Club Scholarship Fund, P.O. Box 6065, Asheville, N.C. 28816.
