Charlotte - Harry LeRoy Shook, 78, died Tuesday, January 20, 2004 at the Harris Hospice Unit at Presbyterian Hospital. Born in Asheville, NC on February 9, 1925, he was a son of the late Lee and Mae Capps Shook. He was also preceded in death by his wife of 32 years, Doris Matthews Shook and a brother, Clyde B. Shook. Mr. Shook joined the U.S. Army Air Corp. in 1941 and retired from the U.S. Air Force after 27 years of service. During World War ll, he served in the Mediterranean Sea, Europe and the Philippines. He later served in the Korean War. Following his retirement from the military, he worked as a plumber for 20 years, retiring from SDS Plumbing in 1993. Mr. Shook was a member of the Marion Diehl Senior Center and the Physically Disabled Adults with the YMCA. Mr. Shook is survived by a daughter, Barbara Kontz and her husband, Carl, of Charlotte; two sons, Lee Edgar Shook and his wife, Vicki, of Asheville and Gary Shook and his wife, Laura, of Charlotte; a sister, Rena Austin of Enka-Candler; six grandchildren and one great-grandchild. Funeral Services will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, January 24, 2004, at the Dilworth Chapel of Hankins and Whittington Funeral Home, Charlotte. Graveside services with full Military Honors will follow at 4 p.m. Saturday at Pisgah View Memorial Park in Candler under the direction of Anders-Rice Funeral Home. The family will receive friends from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Friday, January 23rd at Hankins and Whittington Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Harris Hospice Unit, Presbyterian Hospital, P.O. Box 33549, Charlotte, NC 28233.
