Candler Harold Clark Sloan, 90, passed away Tuesday, October 24, 2017. A native of Statesville, NC, Mr. Sloan had resided in Buncombe County since 1960. He was the branch manager for Southern Pump and Tank for 25 years, and then served as a salesman for Oilmens Truck Tanks for another 15 years. He had been a faithful member of Pole Creek Baptist Church for over 50 years, and was a veteran of the US Army. Mr. Sloan was the son of the late Robert C. and Ina Huie Sloan, and the husband of the late Dorothy Fulp Sloan, who passed away in 2001. He was also preceded in death by his sister, Hazel Harmon, and brothers: Huie Sloan, French Sloan, and Eugene Sloan. Surviving are his children: Suzanne Butler of Candler, Philip Sloan (Kathy) of Candler, and Jerry Sloan (Janinea) of Spartanburg, SC; granddaughter, Erica Butler of Candler; great-grandson, Landon West; brother, Blaine Sloan of Statesville, NC; and several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held at 3:30 PM Sunday at Pole Creek Baptist Church, with the Rev. Dennis Thurman officiating. Burial will follow in Snow Hill United Methodist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 2:00 3:30 PM Sunday at the church. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Pole Creek Baptist Church Benevolence Fund, 96 Snow Hill Church Road, Candler, NC 28715. Anders-Rice Funeral Home is assisting the Sloan family.
