Asheville - Harlan B. Proffitt, born October 21, 1927, went to be with his Lord and Savior the morning of December 13, 2017. He is the son of the late Brank and Bessie Arrington Proffitt of Marshall. Harlan was one of the youngest men to serve in the Navy during World War II. He served on DE-395 aboard the U.S.S. Willis. He worked for Matthews Ford for 31 years and after retiring, worked for Avis Rental at Asheville Regional Airport for 18 years before retiring. He was a member of Newbridge Baptist Church. He is survived by his wife of 70 years Hazel Proffitt; daughters, Patricia Carol Donati (husband Edward Donati) and Deborah Kay Metcalf (husband Roland Metcalf); grandchildren, Phillip Donati (wife Tracie Donati), Michael Donati, Crystal Angel (husband Jonathan Angel) and BreAnna Williams; great grandchildren, Jonathan JJ Angel; Destiny Donati, Hailey Angel, Aaron Angel, Brayden Angel and Eddie Donati; sister, Norma Jean Ammons and several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held at 2 PM Saturday, December 16, 2017 at Newbridge Baptist Church with Rev. Clark E. Henderson officiating. Entombment will follow in Lewis Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 1 to 2 PM Saturday prior to services at the church. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the family to assist with expenses. Harlan Proffitt was a very loved man and will be greatly missed by his family and all who knew him.
