Grady Dehart "Granny" Conner

Fairview - Grady DeHart Granny Conner, 98, died Monday, March 15, 2004 at the home she lived at for nine years with her granddaughter and her husband, Becky and Marvin McIntosh and family, at 330 Lower Brush Creek Rd. on March 15, 2004. Born April 18, 1905, in Macon County, she was the oldest of ten children, the daughter of the late Vance and Laura Ramsey DeHart, and wife of William Luther Conner, Sr. who died in Oct., 1981. She was also preceded in death by a grandson, Tim Conner, six sisters, Pauline Cook, Bedale Smith, Christine Guffey, Beulah Morgan, Mayberyl Bateman, and Bonnie Jones, and two brothers, Will DeHart and Creed DeHart. Grady received her teaching degree from Sylva Collegiate Institute in 1926. She taught at Topton and Tellico School, a one-room school with 1st thru 7th grades. She retired from Beacon with 30 years of service. Grady and Luther helped manage Mountain View Mobile Home Park in Fairview and later, in 1982, she helped her granddaughter at Beckys Rest Home with cooking and doing activities with the residents. Grady was the oldest member of Cane Creek Baptist Church and the oldest Charter Member of the Fairview Fire Dept. and Ladies Aux. Grady is survived by her beloved family; one sister, Maude Stockton of Fletcher; son, William Bill Conner, Jr. and wife Pat of Fairview; daughter, Carolyn Nesbitt and husband Boyce of Fletcher; two grandchildren, Becky McIntosh and husband Marvin of Fletcher, and Randy Conner of Fairview; seven great grandchildren, Carmie May McIntosh of Old Fort; Cheyenne and Clove McIntosh of Fletcher; Hannah Conner of Fairview, Tiffany Conner of Enka, Zachary and Nathan Conner both of Fairview; several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held at 11 AM Friday in the chapel of Anders-Rice Funeral Home with the Revs. Kenny Ray and Daryl Searcy officiating. Burial will be at Cane Creek Cemetery. Honorary pallbearers will be the Fairview Fire Dept. The family will receive friends from 7 until 9 PM Thursday at the funeral home. At other times, the family will be at the home of Becky and Marvin McIntosh, 330 Lower Brush Creek Rd. The family would like to thank Dr. William Hamilton for all his dedicated years of care for Granny.
