Gladys Riddle Smith

Fletcher - Gladys Riddle Smith, 88, formerly of 135 Emmas Grove Road, passed away Friday, August 10, 2007 at Emerald Ridge Rehab and Care Center. A native of Yancey County, she had resided in Buncombe County since 1949. She was a homemaker and was a member of Emmas Grove Baptist Church. Mrs. Smith was the daughter of the late Kelse and Bertha McMahan Riddle, and the widow of Arnold Smith, her husband of 70 years, who passed away November 5, 2004. She was also preceded in death by two brothers and a sister. Surviving are her children: Billy J. Smith and wife Marietta of Asheville, Mackey Smith and wife Kennie of Rutherfordton, and Louise Smith Mathews of Asheville; seven grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. Graveside services will be held at 2 PM Sunday at Ashelawn Gardens of Memory, with the Rev. Jane Smith officiating. The family will assemble at Anders-Rice Funeral Home on Sunday prior to the graveside service.
