Asheville Geraldine Kate Messer Kirkpatrick, 84, of 70 Sweeten Creek Road, went to be with her Lord on Wednesday, May 29, 2013 at The Laurels of Green Tree Ridge. A native of Haywood County, she had resided in Spring Creek most of her life prior to moving to Buncombe County. She loved quilting, gardening and camping, was Co-Founder and Member of Spring Creek Ladies Auxiliary and a member of Mt. Zion Baptist Church. Mrs. Kirkpatrick was a daughter of the late Robert Bob Treadway Messer and Pearl Green Messer and wife of Sam Love Kirkpatrick (Caldwell) who died September 28, 2008. She was also preceded in death by her sisters, Anna Bell Rogers, Cora Lee Kirkpatrick and Bobbie Arrington; brothers, Verno and Roscoe Messer and son-in-law, Bob Jones. Surviving are her daughter, Lora Willene Jones of Asheville; granddaughter, Jeana Ferguson, grandson, Samuel Brad Jones, great grandsons, Robbie and Tyler Ferguson; great granddaughter, Haillie Hensley Jones; sister, Ruth Richie of Aurora, IN; several nieces and nephews and special friends and neighbors. Funeral services will be held 11 AM Saturday, June 1, 2013 in the chapel of Anders-Rice Funeral Home with Rev. Jimmy Moore and Rev. Ricky Townsend officiating. The family will receive friends immediately following services at the funeral home. Graveside services will be held 2 PM Sunday, June 2, 2013 at Mt. Zion Baptist Church Cemetery with Teddy Tweed, Tyler Ferguson, Matthew Turbyfill, Jerry Freeman, Cody Tweed, Earl Rogers, Neil Brown, Danny Messer, Brad Jones and Heath Pressley serving as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers will be Paul Caldwell, Reuben Caldwell, Mack Tweed, David Finley, Harold Davidson, Harold Hunter and Sam Rogers. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to: Mt. Zion Baptist Church, C/o Joyce Reese, 1124 Bluff Mtn Road, Hot Springs, N.C. 28743 or Panther Creek Baptist Church, C/o Pearlene Brown, 5140 Panther Creek Road, Clyde, N.C. 28721.
