George Thomas Hampton Sr.

Asheville - George Thomas Hampton, 91, of Asheville died Thursday, September 29, 2005. George was born April 23, 1914 in Asheville. He attended Lee Edwards High School and Cecils Business College. Throughout the depression, George Played trumpet across Western North Carolina with his band The Carolinians. He was employed by several bakeries, American Enka Corporation and Haywood Community College, where he worked as a jewelry instructor until his retirement in 1996. He was a member of Kenilworth Presbyterian Church. George was preceded in death by his parents, Arthur and Bertha Hampton and his wife, Hazel Kuykendall Hampton. He is survived by his son, Tom Hampton of Raleigh and his grandchildren, Angela Hale, Christopher Hampton and Tiffany Lee. George is also survived by his longtime companion, Margaret Lewis and his adopted grandchildren, Kegan, Colleen and Erin Gray Daly. Services will be held at 2:00 P.M. Sunday at Anders-Rice Funeral Home with the Revs. John David Stewart and Jay Raybuck officiating. Burial will be in Woodlawn Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 1:00 to 2:00 P.M. Sunday at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, his family and friends ask that you call someone special to you to whom you have not spoken in some time.
