George Ervin Tipton

Arden – George Tipton, 89, went home to be with the Lord on Friday, February 12, 2021. A native of Madison County he resided in Buncombe County most of his life. He was a son of the late Walter Tipton and Dahlia Rose Bryan Tipton. He was also preceded in death by his great-grandson, Cullin Limer; sister, Mary Kate Banks; and brothers: Walter Ray Tipton and Harry Bruce Tipton. Mr. Tipton was a U.S. Army Combat Veteran having served in the Korean War, earning the rank of Staff Sergeant (SSGT) and receiving the United Nations National Defense Korean Service Medal, Good Conduct Medal, and Combat Infantryman 50th Korean War Anniversary Medal. Following his military service, Mr. Tipton retired, following 42 years of service, from C.C. Dickson Air Conditioning and Refrigeration Company as manager of the Hendersonville store. He was also a member of the Arden Kiwanis Club and was voted Kiwanian of the Year 1973 - 1974, and a member of Skyland First Baptist Church. Surviving are his wife whom he married on March 14, 1964, Edna Tipton; children: Georgette Limer of Arlington, TX, Dr. George Brian Tipton and wife Betty of Mills River, Scott Alan Tipton of Candler, and Kimberly Dawn Butler of Pickens, SC; grandchildren: Scott Limer, Kelly Miller, Jessica Rasmussen, Cori Limer, and Maddy Butler (his favorite person); 9 great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held at 2 PM Tuesday, February 16, 2021, in the chapel of Anders-Rice Funeral Home with Rev. Robert Ponder officiating. Burial will follow at Ashelawn Gardens with military honors conducted by the NC National Guard.. The body will lie-in-state from 2 till 4 PM on Monday at the funeral home for those who wish to come by. Pallbearers will be: Maddy Butler, Glenn Cabe, Brian Tipton, Scott Tipton, Brian Miller, and Casey Miller.
