George E. Bancroft, Jr.

Asheville - George Eastland Bancroft, Jr., 90, of 110 Carrier Street passed away Saturday January 22, 2011 at the John F. Keever, Jr. Solace Center. A native of Oklahoma City, OK, he moved to Buncombe County in 1954. He was a member of West Asheville Baptist Church and a former member of the Asheville Civil Service Board. Mr. Bancroft retired from the U.S. Postal Service following 37 years of service and was a WWII veteran of the U.S. Army having served in the Phillipines and New Guinea. He was a son of the late George Eastland and Linnie Davis Bancroft and the husband of Bernice Mildred Orr Bancroft who died April 5, 1998 and was also preceded in death by his brother, Charles Eades Bancroft. Surviving are his children, Mary B. Young and husband Mike of Hurdle Mills, Charles Edward Bancroft and wife Faradeih of Raleigh, John Eastland Bancroft and wife Kim of Fairview, twins - Gloria Lynne Bancroft and Gary Lindsey Bancroft both of Asheville and Liz Hutchins and husband Max of Asheville; sister, Elizabeth Saxon of Oklahoma City, Ok; 9 grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren. Funeral services will be 11 A.M. Tuesday at Anders-Rice Funeral home with Rev. Troy Beavers officiating. Burial will be in Ashelawn Gardens of Memory.
