Asheville - Ruth Geneva White Smith, 87, of 242 Keystone Drive Ext. died Sunday October 24, 2004 at her home. A native of Stokes County, she resided in Buncombe county since 1955. She was a cosmetologist and the former owner and operator of Genevas Beauty Shop. She was a member of Victory Baptist Church where she was a member of the Sunshine Club. She was also the oldest member of the Buncombe County Firemans Auxiliary, a member of the Order of Eastern Star in Hayesville and along with her husband was very active in the Erwin Hills Lions Club. Mrs. Smith attended Western Carolina University and was an avid gardner and enjoyed cooking. She was a daughter of the late John Gideon White and Mobelia Frances Griffin White and the wife of Ralph L. Smith who died September 17, 1992. She was also preceded in death by 2 sisters, Rose King and Elva Quinlivan and 2 brothers, Dink White and Dubert White. Surviving are her daughters, Linda Warren and Vicki Hallifax and husband Tom all of Asheville; sons, Richard Smith of Bainbridge, GA and Mark C. Smith and wife Lisa of Prospect Park, PA; sisters, Frances Griffin of Rural Hall and Virginia Badal of Sacramento, CA; 12 grandchildren, 10 great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held at 2 P.M. Thursday at Victory Baptist Church with the Rev. Larry Sprinkle officiating. Entombment will be in Forest Lawn Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 P.M. Wednesday at Anders-Rice Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to: West Buncombe Fire Department Auxiliary, % Annie Cole, 278 Mt.
