Asheville Fred Crawford Kurfees, 83, went to be with his Lord on Monday, July 25, 2016 at the John F. Keever, Jr. Solace Center. A native of Rowan County, NC, he had resided in Buncombe County for most of his life. He retired from Ford Tractor Company where he served for 28 years and Public Service Gas Company where he served for 15 years, was a member for 45 years of Mt. Carmel Baptist Church and served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. Fred was well known by many farmers in Western North Carolina as the one to call on whenever their farm equipment needed repairs. He was always willing to help anyone and would trade out his services for those who did not have the money for a bushel of corn or beans. He was a caring and very humble man who always helped others. He was the President of his Senior Class at Emma High School. He raced cars at the old McCormick Field and Weaverville Speedway. Surviving are his wife of 58 years, Mary Ann Duckett Kurfees; children, Steve Kurfees and wife Pam of Jonesborough, TN, Darlene Davis and husband J.W. and Danny Kurfees and fiance, Angela Buckner all of Asheville; grandchildren, Stephanie Bentley and husband Rusty, Brandon Kurfees and wife Brittney, and Jillian Kurfees and great granddaughters, Nora Beth and Avery. Memorial services will be held at 3:30 PM Friday, July 29, 2016 at Mt. Carmel Baptist Church with Rev. Dr. Ronnie Owen officiating and his son, Danny Kurfees to bring the eulogy.
