Frank R. Smith

Fletcher Frank Roberts Smith, 87, formerly of Melton Drive, passed away Saturday, February 12, 2011 at Fleshers Fairview Health Care Center. A native of Madison County, Mr. Smith had resided in Buncombe County since 1946. He retired as a general contractor and was a member of Red Hill Freewill Baptist Church. He served bravely in the US Navy during World War II in the South Pacific. Mr. Smith was the son of the late Shuford and Laura Kate Howell Smith. He was also preceded in death by his brothers: John, George, and Wayne Smith; and sister, Nell Richardson. Surviving are his daughter, Jeannette Redden and husband Eric of Hendersonville; son, Bruce A. Smith and wife Betty of Asheville; grandsons: Kelly Smith and wife Lynn of Bluffton, SC, Alan Smith and wife Stephanie of LaFrance, SC, and Adam M. Smith and wife Corrie of Chapel Hill, NC; great-grandchildren: Chelsea Smith, Dylan Smith, Abagale Smith and Isabelle Smith; and numerous nieces and nephews. Memorial services will be held at 3 PM Saturday, February 19, 2011 in the chapel of Anders-Rice Funeral Home and Cremation Center, with the Rev. Clark Sorrells officiating. A private burial will be held at a later date. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.
