Fay V. Franklin Lanning

May 14, 1911 — September 26, 2010

St. Augustine, FL/Asheville On September 26, 2010, a truly beautiful spirit left this earth to go be with God in heaven. She was 99 years old, born May 14, 1911 and was a lifelong resident of Asheville until she moved to St. Augustine, Florida in August, 2005. She was preceded in death December 14, 1983 by her husband, Clinton J. Lanning. They were the same age, born the same day, were childhood sweethearts and married in 1929. She was the daughter of the late Arthur and Bessie Franklin and sister of the late Virgie Franklin, Gay Franklin and Gordon Franklin, all of Leicester. Mrs. Lanning was a long time member of Merrimon Avenue Baptist Church. She was a lifetime member of the Kiwanis Club, the Ladies Auxiliary of the Asheville Police and was a long time worker with the Buncombe County Voter Registration Committee. She worked at the Battery Park Hotel for 26 years until it closed in 1976. She was a friend to all those whose lives she touched and will always be remembered for her thoughtful, gentle and sweet loving ways. She enjoyed things, but truly loved people. All who knew and loved her will miss her caring and generous heart, especially her family. Mrs. Lanning was a wonderful loving mother and grandmother. She is survived by her daughter, Betty L. Ream and her husband Ronald of St. Augustine, FL; her two grandchildren, Mona Ream of Austin, TX and Larry Ream of Dallas, TX; three nephews and two nieces. Funeral services will be held 1 P.M. Saturday, October 2, 2010 in the chapel of Anders-Rice Funeral Home with Rev. Tom Lomax officiating. Interment will follow at Corinth Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends 12 to 1 P.M. Saturday prior to services at the funeral home. Her memory will always shine and we will be lost without her. We will always love her and will carry the wonderful memories of her in our hearts. Mrs. Lanning loved children, so in lieu of flowers, please make a donation to a childrens home of your choice.
