Everette C. Haney, Jr.

April 6, 1925 — November 21, 2021

Asheville – Rev. Everette Charles Haney, Jr, 96, of 160 O’Donald Road, went to be with the Lord on Sunday, November 21, 2021 at the Asheville VA Valor Hospice. A lifelong resident of Buncombe County, he served in the US Navy during WWII, and was an ordained minister, having been ordained in the French Broad Baptist Church Alexander. He was the oldest member of Freedom Baptist Church where he had served as Senior Citizens pastor since 1994. He was instrumental in helping collect donations for the onset of the WNC Baptist Home and served on the Executive Board of the Southern Baptist Association for three years. He retired in 1989 following 10 years of service from Square D. Rev. Haney was the son of the late Everette Charles “Charlie” Haney, Sr and Pearl Buckner Haney and the husband for over 66 years to the late Nellie Meadows Haney who passed away May 7, 2017. He was also preceded in death by his brothers, Denver, Jack, Earl, Conley and Don Haney and sisters, Lova Sluder, Helen Rogers, Ruth Adamski and Wilma Taylor. Surviving are his children, Sandra Haney of the home and Tim Haney and wife Jackie of Alexander; grandchildren, Bridget King and husband Kevin and Nick Haney and wife Jenny and great grandchildren, Savannah, Emma, Mia and Ella King and Rayley, Jace and Ridge Haney; sister-in-law, nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held at 11 AM Wednesday, November 24, 2021 in the chapel of the Anders-Rice Funeral Home, with Rev. Charles Rogers and Rev. Dr. Keith Hutchinson officiating. Graveside rites will follow at Green Hills Cemetery, with Rev. Kellen Griffin officiating, followed by military rites to be conducted by the US Navy Honor Guard. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 PM Tuesday, November 23, 2021 at the funeral home. To family wishes to express their sincere appreciation to the staff and nurses at CarePartners Hospice, Asheville VA Valor Hospice, and the individual caregivers, Jerri Scott and Opal Embler. A very special thanks to his daughter, Sandra from his son, Tim and family for her love, devotion and dedication to our dad for all these many years.
