Evelyn Williams

Asheville Evelyn Bonnie Grooms Williams, 86, of Asheville, passed away Tuesday, April 22, 2014 at the Four Seasons Hospice Elizabeth House. A native of Madison County, Mrs. Williams had resided in Buncombe County most of her life. She was a member of New Hope Baptist Church. Mrs. Williams was the daughter of the late Chief and Nola Shelton Grooms, and the wife of Pender Williams, who passed away in 2006. She was also preceded in death by her son, Pender Williams, Jr.; and sisters: Ollie Williams, Mamie Creasman, and Minnie Belle Gillespie. Surviving are her sons: Bobby Williams, Gary Williams and wife Barbara, Dave Williams, and Joe Williams and wife Angie; daughter, Patricia Weiss and husband Richard; brother, J.D. Grooms; sisters: Thelma Stewart and Norma Lee Medford; 13 grandchildren, 23 great-grandchildren, 1 great, great-grandchild, and several nieces and nephews. Graveside services will be held at 1:00 PM Monday at Forest Lawn Memorial Park, with the Rev. Steve Oxner officiating. The family will receive friends from 5:00 7:00 PM Sunday at Anders-Rice Funeral Home.
