Eva Edmonds "Granny" Kent

Leicester Eva Edmonds Kent, 102, of 148 Martin Branch Road, passed away Monday, January 15, 2007 at the John F. Keever, Jr. Solace Center. A lifelong resident of Buncombe County, she worked as an inspector for Asheville Cleaners and Dyers for many years. She was a member of North Asheville Baptist Church. Mrs. Kent was the daughter of the late Fulton A. and Minnie Sue Rice Edmonds, and was the widow of Cecil Alonzo Kent, who passed away in 1976. She was also preceded in death by her children: Calvin Kent, Betty Holcombe, and infant son, Cecil Kent, Jr. Surviving are her daughters: Estella West and husband Bruce, and Naomi Hensley, all of Asheville, and Minnie Woody of Leicester; a special daughter-in-law, Evelyn Kent of Woodfin; sister, Vistula Robinson, of Weaverville; 24 grandchildren, 61 great-grandchildren, 29 great, great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held at 2:30 PM Wednesday in the chapel of Anders-Rice Funeral Home, with the Rev. J.C. Wilson and Rev. Jerry Kent officiating. Burial will follow in Ashelawn Gardens of Memory. The family will receive friends from 7-8:30 PM Tuesday at the funeral home.
