Ettie M. Travis

Arden - Ettie Lucille Meek Travis, 97, of 3864 Sweeten Creek Road, passed away Monday March 16, 2009 at The Oaks of Sweeten Creek. A native of Bean Station, TN. She had resided in Buncombe County most of her life, retired from Asheville Hosiery Mill and was a member of West Asheville Baptist Church since 1950. Mrs. Travis was the daughter of the late Robert Meek and Rosa Taylor Meek and wife of James Wallace Travis who died March 21, 1975. She was also preceded in death by her daughter, Betty Jo Travis Brown who died December 3, 1983. Surviving are her daughter, Norma Travis Gowan & husband Ernest Ruble Gowan of Arden; grandchildren, Rebecca Gowan Pressley of Arden, James (Jim) Brown of Hendersonville, Diane Cassada of Asheville and Carol Combs of Morristown, TN; 8 great grandchildren and several great-great grandchildren. Funeral services will be held 11 A.M. Wednesday in the chapel of Anders-Rice Funeral Home with Rev. Dr. James Johnson officiating. Burial will follow in Pisgah View Memorial Park. The family will receive friends 6 to 8 P.M. Tuesday at the funeral home.
