Candler Esther Rice Evans, 84, went to be with her Lord on March 23, 2018 at the Randolph Hospice House in Asheboro. A native of Buncombe County, she was a daughter of the late Luchus and Leathy Arrington Rice and wife of Marvin Roger (Junior) Evans who died in 1976. She was also preceded in death by her brothers, Junior Rice and J.D. Rice and sisters, Thelma Clark and Georgia Rogers. Mrs. Evans retired following 25 years of service from the Buncombe County Schools as a School Bus Driver formerly employed with Mills Mfg Co. and Connies Fashions. Surviving are her children, Clara Bork (Paul) of Candler, Doris Mullins of Kingsland, GA, Evelyn Wright of Old Fort, Roger Evans of Candler and Gwenava McCurry (Jeff) of Asheboro; sisters, Tina Morris, Ruth Rice, Nancy Lunsford and Ruby McEntire; brother, Carlos Rice; special friend, Roy Mace of Alexander; 18 grandchildren, numerous great and great great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held in the chapel of Anders-Rice Funeral Home 2 pm, Tuesday, March 27, 2018 with the Rev. Larry Rogers officiating. Burial will be in Ashelawn Gardens of Memory with her grandsons serving as pallbearers. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8PM Monday at the funeral home.
