Esther Mccurry Jones

May 9, 1917 — February 17, 2003

Asheville - Mary Esther McCurry Jones, 85, formerly of 290 Old County Home Road passed away Monday February 17, 2003 at Ivy Hill Assisted Living in Brevard after a period of declining health. A native of Asheville, she was a member of Deaverview Baptist Church for more than 55 years where she taught Sunday School and was a very active member of the choir until her illness. She was retired from Phelps and Jackson Company. She was a daughter of the late Luther and Fuschia Wallen McCurry and the wife of the late Robert Mack Jones. She was also preceded in death by sisters, Frances Evelyn Norwood, Ethel Juanita Candler and Jean Elizabeth Riggins and a brother, John Nelson McCurry. Surviving are her son, Robert Eugene Jones of Etowah; two grandchildren much loved by Esther, Geoffrey Scott Jones of Kansas City, Mo. and Suzette Renee Jones of Greensboro; sister, Virginia Joan Banks of Asheville and two brothers, Howard Eugene McCurry of Port Charlotte, Fl. and Luther Earl McCurry of Palmetto, Fl.. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 P.M. Friday at Deaverview Baptist Church with the Revs. Earl Moseley and Darryl Searcy officiating. Burial will be in Forest Lawn memorial Park. The family will receive friends one hour before services at the church.
