Ernest Henderson, 93, passed away on Thursday, August 28, 2014 at Stone Creek Health and Rehabilitation. A native of Madison County, he had lived most of his life in Buncombe County. Ernest was a U.S. Army Veteran having served during WWII, as a Staff Sergeant, and present at the Battle of the Bulge, during which time he received the Purple Heart Award. Following his military service, Ernest was employed with Biltmore Dairy for 36 years having served in various capacities. After retirement he and his wife Alice raised beef cattle. He was also a member of Oak Forest Presbyterian Church. He was the son of the late A.G. and Belvie Payne Henderson. He was also preceded in death by his beloved wife, Alice Melinda Brown Henderson; a grandson, David William Franks; and brothers: John Wade Henderson and Mallie Henderson. Surviving are his daughter, Alice Ann Henderson Franks and son-in-law Tom Franks of Asheville; son, Jeffrey Ernest Henderson and wife Pamela of Waynesville; grandchildren, Kevin Franks, Joe Henderson, Andrew Henderson and wife Amanda, and Ethan Henderson and his girlfriend, Farrah Willett; great grandchildren: Jacob, Avery, Brantley, and Jonathan Henderson; and by many nieces, nephews, extended family and friends. Memorial services will be held at 2:30 P.M. Tuesday, September 2, 2014, in the Chapel of Anders-Rice Funeral Home, with Rev. Dr. Donald Price and Rev. David Morgan officiating. The family will receive friends immediately following services at the funeral home. Graveside services will be held on Tuesday, September 2, 2014, at 1 PM at Forest Lawn Memorial Park, prior to the Memorial Service at the funeral home. The family would like to extend a special Thank You to the staff of Stone Creek Health and Rehabilitation for their great care of Ernest.
