Elsie Elizabeth Roberts Townsend

Asheville - Elsie Elizabeth Roberts Townsend, 88, of 19 Swift Street, a loving mother went home to be with the Lord Wednesday November 14, 2001 at St. Josephs Hospital after a period of declining health. A lifelong resident of Buncombe County, she retired in 1982 from the S & W Cafeteria and was formerly employed at the Battery Park Hotel in the Banquet Department for many years. She was the daughter of the late Lonnie and Addie Banks Roberts and the wife of Robert Leonard Townsend, Sr. who died April 6, 1969. Surviving are her daughter, Patricia Edwards and husband Roger with whom she made her home; son, Robert Bobby Leonard Townsend, Jr. and wife Sandra of Asheville.; grandchildren, Dale Edwards, Robert Leonard Jeremiah Townsend, III, Floyd Paul Joshua Townsend and Jason Wallace all of Asheville; great grandchildren, Haley and Skyler Townsend of Asheville and brother, Rev. George A. Roberts of West Asheville. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday in the Chapel of Anders-Rice Funeral Home with the Rev. Dr. John T. Tiller officiating. Burial will be in Green Hills Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 7 to 8:30 P.M. Friday at the funeral home, at other times the family will be at the residence.
