Glen Alpine Elbert Clark Buddy Gass, 77, of Glen Alpine in Burke County, went to be with the Lord on Sunday, January 6, 2019. He retired from Coble Dairy and served as a deacon at Blue Ridge Baptist Church, Black Mountain for 17 years. He served as a Seaman in the Navy from 1959 to 1962. He is preceded in death by his father, Horace Gass; his mother, Anna Lou Gass; two brothers, Danny and Harold and two sisters, Naomi Hall and Kate Sherlin. He leaves behind his life partner, Pauline Sams; three daughters, Lisa Gass and life partner, Diana White, Denise Norton and husband, Scotty and Elizabeth Owen Moore and husband Ray. He also leaves behind six grandchildren, Edward Gass and wife, Rebecca, Jennifer Norton, Roby Norton, Yazmine Light Sherry Light and Randal Light, Jr.; two great-grandsons, Austin Gabriel and Hunter Blake Gass. He is also survived by three brothers, Roy Gass, JC Gass and Jerry Gass; two sisters, Jenny Sue Price and Mary Maxwell and numerous nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held at 11 AM Thursday, January 10, 2019 in the chapel of Anders-Rice Funeral Home with Rev. Andrew Parker officiating. Burial will follow in Green Hills Cemetery with military graveside rites to be conducted by the US Navy. Pallbearers will be Edward Gass, Roby Norton, Scotty Norton, Donnie Maxwell, Stephanie Babb and Donnie Hayes. The family will receive friends from 5 to 7 PM Wednesday at the funeral home.
