Edward Sr. Hensley

ASHEVILLE Edward Hensley, Sr., 92, of 32 Merchant Street died Friday, August 27, 2010 at the John F. Keever, Jr. Solace Center. Mr. Hensley was a lifelong resident of Buncombe County and a member of Oakley F.W. Baptist Church. He retired in 1974 as a Truck Driver in the Trucking Industry where he spent his working life and ending his career with ET & WNC Transportation Co. He served for 14 months in the Civilian Conservation Corps during 1936 and 1937 in Barnardsville, Camp #309. Mr. Hensley was a son of the late John Franklin Hensley and Lydia Margaret Bartlett Hensley. He was the husband of Bessie Lee Garland Hensley to whom he was married for almost 57 years. They were married April 18, 1938 in Greenville, SC. Mrs. Hensley passed away in December of 1994. He was also preceded in death by 3 brothers, Ernest, James and Elmer Hensley; sisters, Annabelle Landers and Carolyn Oliver. Surviving are his children, Edward Hensley, Jr. of Arden, Bill Hensley & wife, Polly of Asheville and Mary Lee Hensley Burnette and husband, Bob of Asheville; 3 grandchildren, 5 great grandchildren and 3 great-great grandchildren. Funeral services will be held 12 Noon Monday in the chapel of Anders-Rice Funeral Home with the Rev. Bobby Robinson officiating. Burial will follow in Woodlawn Cemetery in Oakley. The family will receive friends from 10:30 AM to 12 Noon Monday at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the John F. Keever, Jr. Solace Center, P.O. Box 25338, Asheville, NC 28813. The family would like to thank and express their gratitude to the entire staff of the John F. Keever, Jr. Solace Center, the CarePartners Home Health Team and the 4th Floor, Section A staff at the Memorial Campus of Mission Hospitals for their loving care.
