Edith Riddle Rhodes

Asheville Edith Riddle Rhodes, beloved mother and friend, passed away peacefully October 16, 2008 at Memorial Mission Hospital. She was born June 14, 1920 and was a resident of Emerald Ridge Nursing Home. Edith was a member of Newbridge Baptist Church. She graduated from Woodfin High School and Biltmore Hospital School of Nursing. She worked for Dr. L. Nelson Bell (Billy Grahams father-in-law) and retired from American Enka Corporation as C shift nurse in 1983 with 21 years service. After retirement, she and her husband loved to travel and went on many cruises and various travels with Christian Travel Associations and then traveled with her beloved sister-in-law, Mildred McCracken, after her husband was unable to travel. She was preceded in death by her father, Jeter Riddle and mother, Dorothy Gillespie Riddle and brother, Craig. Ediths husband, James Bryan Rhodes passed away in 2003 and son, David Kim Rhodes in 1961. Edith is survived by her son, Russell Robert Rhodes & wife, Sue of Woodfin and Murphy; her only most loved grandson, Robert Bryan Rhodes & wife, Stacey Bradley Rhodes and twin great grandsons, Bryan and Bradley Rhodes of Inman, S.C.; stepmother, Lucille Riddle; sisters, Opal Cooper & husband, Fred and Polly Lee; brothers, Warren Riddle & wife, Edran and Jerry Dean Riddle; several nieces & nephews; sister-in-law, Mildred Rhodes McCracken and very good friend at Emerald Ridge, Helena Dover. Graveside services will be Sunday, October 19, 2008 at 2 P.M. at Ashelawn Gardens of Memory at 901 Aiken Road, Asheville, N.C. 28804 with Rev. Clark Henderson officiating. The family wishes to thank Emerald Ridge Nursing Home for their kind and most gracious, loving care of Edith. Anders-Rice Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements.
