Edith M. May

Edith M. May, 92, passed away Thursday, March 10, 2016 at the WNC Baptist Home. Mrs. May was born on January 26, 1924 in Buncombe County to Edgar Carlton Mayo and Thelma Jeanette Barrett Mayo. In 1944 she joined the Army Cadet Nurse Corps, and in 1947 graduated from the Spartanburg Memorial Hospital School of Nursing. Mrs. May worked many years for the American Enka Plant as an Occupational Health Nurse, and retired in 1985. She is preceded in death by parents; husband of 60 years, Jefferson William May, Sr. who passed away on May 17, 2009; and by 5 sisters. She is survived by her children: Jefferson William May, Jr., Holly May Norton, and Timothy Carlton May and wife Julie; grandchildren: Jefferson Davis May and wife Amanda, Carolyn May, Emma Norton, Megan May, Benjamin May, and Molly May; great-granddaughter, Olivia Hope May; and many nieces and nephews. Graveside services will be held at 1 PM Tuesday, March 15, 2016 at Briartown Baptist Church in Macon County, with Rev. Charlie Sams officiating. The family will receive friends from 6-8 PM on Monday, March 14, 2016, at Anders-Rice Funeral Home.
