Earl Shepherd

January 23, 1941 — February 4, 2014

Candler Eual Earl Shepherd, Sr., 73, passed away Tuesday, February 4, 2014 at Mission Hospitals. A native of Jackson County, Mr. Shepherd had resided in Buncombe County for most of his life. He had 35 years of dedicated service as a truck driver with Silvers Brothers, Inc., and was a US Navy veteran. Mr. Shepherd will be remembered as a loving father, grandfather, companion and friend who had a generous spirit, and was an avid fan of NASCAR, antique cars and country music. Mr. Shepherd was the son of the late Edgar Deck and Eula Lakey Shepherd. He was also preceded in death by a brother, Roger Shepherd; and sister, Nina Foster. Surviving are his former wife and current companion, Doris Shepherd; children: Brenda Shepherd and her fianc John Meeker, Darlene Shepherd, and Eual Earl Rusty Shepherd, Jr. and wife Trisha; granddaughter: Jennifer Nikitopoulos and husband Fred; great-grandson, Brayden Nikitopoulos; brother, Joseph Shepherd; and several nieces and nephews, along with a multitude of loving friends. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM Saturday in the chapel of Anders-Rice Funeral Home, with the Rev. Ed Jennings officiating. Burial will follow in Pisgah View Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 7:00 9:00 PM Friday at the funeral home and at Mr. Shepherds home, 68 Israel Road, Candler, NC, following the graveside services on Saturday.
