Mill Spring Dr. William Claude Bill Day, 70, went to be with the Lord on Wednesday, October 25, 2017. A native of Cherokee County, he had resided in Buncombe County most of his life, moving to Polk County in 2014. He was a Baptist Minister and a member of Trinity Baptist Church. He served in churches in Kentucky, West Virginia and Winston-Salem, as well as Trinity Baptist Church and pastored Pleasant Grove Baptist Church in Fairview and Corinth Baptist Church in Leicester. He was a gifted Bible teacher and trained dozens of students who became teachers, preachers and missionaries at Temple Baptist Bible Institute, Trinity Baptist Bible College and Blue Ridge Baptist Bible College. He imparted His love of the Scriptures to any who expressed a desire to learn. Bill was a Chaplain with the Buncombe County Sheriffs Department from 1987 to 2014. In addition, he was a District Security Officer with the US Marshals service for 11 years. Dr. Day was a son of the late Ralph McDonald Day and Ruby Lee Corn Day and was also preceded in death by his grandson, Cody. Surviving are his wife, Nancy Mae Kemp Day of the home; daughters, Lisa Day of Mill Spring, Jeannie Fox (AJ) of Leicester and Deanna Day of Asheville; 8 grandchildren; 1 great granddaughter; brother, Edward Ed Day (Margaret) of Bessemer City and several nieces and nephews. Memorial services will be held at 3 PM Sunday, October 29, 2017 at Trinity Baptist Church with Dr. Ralph Sexton, Jr. officiating. The family will receive friends from 1 to 2:45 PM prior to services at the church. A second service will be held at 2 PM Saturday, November 4, 2017 at Coopers Gap Baptist Church, 730 Coopers Gap Road, Mill Spring, NC 28756 with the family receiving friends following the service. Officiating will be Rev. Don Hollifield. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to: Cody Day Scholarship Fund, c/o Hargrave Military Academy, 200 Military Drive, Chatham, VA 24531.
