Dorothy Snyder Israel

Asheville Dorothy Snyder Israel, 91, a lifetime resident of Buncombe County, died March 23rd at a local nursing home. Mrs. Israel, who was born May 15, 1915 in Asheville was the daughter of the late Oliver L. Snyder and Jennie Jones Snyder and the Widow of Rev. Robert Troy Israel. She and her husband were long standing member of Richland Baptist Church in Woodfin, and Oakley Baptist Church in Asheville. In addition to her parents and husband, she was pre-deceased by a daughter, Patricia Israel Jenkins; five brothers, Ralph, Elmer, Fred, Shuford and Edward Snyder and two sisters, Gussie S. Gibson and Bess S. Sauselin. A loving mother and homemaker, she is survived by a son, Richard T. Israel and wife, Clara of Arden; daughter Betty Israel Luther and husband Wilson of Milton, Florida and one sister, Margaret Carvalho of New Haven, Connecticut, as well as nine grandchildren, nineteen great-grandchildren, six great-great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. The family will receive friends from 7 to 8:30 P.M. on Monday. Her funeral service will be at 11 A.M. Tuesday in the chapel of Anders-Rice Funeral Home with Rev. Steve Combs officiating. Burial will follow at Ashelawn Gardens of Memory. Memorials may be made to the Resident Activity Fund at Fleshers Fairview Health Center, 3016 Cane Creek Road, Fairview, N.C. 28730.
