Dorothy Banks

Swannanoa - Dorothy Mae Ward Banks, 94, of 134 Harrison St. died Thursday October 28, 2004 at St. Josephs Hospital after a period of declining health. A native and lifelong resident of Buncombe County, she retired from Swannanoa Laundry after 22 years of service and was a member of the Salvation Army Church. She was a daughter of the late George and Rhoda Ward and the wife of the late France Banks. She was also preceded in death by 3 sons; Carl, Burnice and Richard Banks and 2 daughters; Maebell Ollis and Judy Carver. Surviving are her sons, Allen Banks of Asheville and Herman Banks of Swannanoa; daughter, Margaret Norris of Oakley; 22 grandchildren, 45 great grandchildren and 12 great great grandchildren, and special thanks to her special friend, Myrtle Jones. Funeral services will be held at 1:30 P.M. Sunday at Anders-Rice Funeral Home with Lt. Col. David Mikles from the Salvation Army officiating. Burial will be in west Memorial Park in Weaverville. The family will receive friends from 7 to 9:00 P.M. Saturday at the funeral home.
