Doris S. Culbertson

September 16, 1929 — December 9, 2017

Asheville Doris Silver Culbertson, 88, went to be with the Lord on Saturday, December 9, 2017. Mrs. Culbertson was a lifelong resident of Buncombe County, and formerly a Day Care Associate with Buncombe County After School Care Program, Home Care Nursing for the Elderly and for 10 years, served as a Greeter at Walmart where her kind words brightened many peoples day. She was a lifelong member of Bethel Baptist Church where she formerly taught Sunday School, Vacation Bible School, Nursery Coordinator and sung in the church choir. She was a 1948 graduate of West Buncombe High School. Mrs. Culbertson was a daughter of the late Offie Howard Silver, Sr. and Teakie Maude Capps Silver. She was also preceded in death by her former husband, Jack L. Culbertson, Sr.; brothers, J.D., Harold and Offie Howard Silver, Jr. and sister, Helen Hembree. Surviving are her sons, James Ray Culbertson and wife, Donna Kay of Leicester and Jack L. Culbertson, Jr. and wife, Lisa of Elon; sister, Alma Metcalf of Candler; granddaughters, SeDonna Culbertson and husband Aaron Grasty, Bethany L. Culbertson and Hannah Culbertson Hurley and husband, Ryan; grandson, Graham Culbertson; great grandson, Dakota Lee and several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held at 2 PM Thursday, December 14, 2017 in the chapel of Anders-Rice Funeral Home with Rev. Mark Lewis officiating. Burial will follow in Bethel Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 1 to 2 PM Thursday prior to services at the funeral home. Doris lived a simple life, faithful to her Lord, and in service to others. She was our best friend and a kind, gentle, godly woman who was loved by all who knew her.
