Doris Houston

Asheville - Doris Cline Houston, 79, passed away Sunday, August 21, 2016 at her home. A native of Gastonia, Mrs. Houston had resided in Buncombe County for over 40 years. She worked as an elevator operator at Appalachian Hall, and was of the Baptist faith. She loved her family, and never once met a stranger. Mrs. Houston was the daughter of the late Preston Cline and Ruby Setzer Cline Holland. She was also preceded in death by her husband, John Bell Houston; and grandson, Preston Knecht. Surviving are her children: Randy Campbell, Billy Campbell, Kathy Messer and husband Jim, Michael Campbell and wife Mary, and Phyllis Bowers and companion Russell Sawyer; grandchildren: Adrianne, Jennifer, Heather, Curtis, Tammy, and Ashley; 9 great-grandchildren; and sister, Carolyn Myers. Graveside services will be held at 12:30 PM Wednesday at Pisgah View Memorial Park, with the Rev. Carl Bagwell officiating. The family will receive friends following the services at the cemetery.
