Asheville Doris Lee Gibson, age 75, of Asheville, North Carolina, peacefully passed away at 10:35 in the morning on October 19th, 2014. Born April 11, 1939, in Mecklenburg County, Doris was the daughter of Reverend O.L. and Mary Margaret Hemphill McGinnis. As a girl, Doris Lee enjoyed playing the piano and singing within the church communities to which she belonged. Along with her sister, Mary Sue, she enjoyed each of the 'church families' that she became a part of and kept many dear friendships throughout her life. Doris and her dedicated husband and loving companion, Gary, have been married for 56 years. They spent time together gardening, traveling and making a caring and loving home for their 4 children. Their daughter, Leslie Augur and her children, Wes, Adinna, and Hannah; daughter Celia Kim; sons Shelby and Ashley with his family Rachel, and children Miles and Kayla will miss her deeply. Doris had a boundless entrepreneurial spirit that she used to create many different unique products that had variety and interest. For many years Doris had a catering business that added a sweet touch to many wedding cakes, special occasions and celebrations. She loved to travel and collect ideas along the way for creating her truly homemade wares. She grew her own organic herbs and flowers to sell and also used them in the creation of pure homemade soaps, lotions, and candles. In preparing for her favorite annual craft show with her husband Gary by her side, Doris unexpectedly fell ill. She gently passed away a few days later surrounded by her family members at Care Partners in Asheville. Doris was an active and loyal member of First Baptist Church of Asheville. The church will be our gathering place for her Memorial Service on Thursday, October 23 at 2 oclock in the afternoon. In lieu of flowers, it is requested that any donations be made in her honor to The Sacred Garden at the First Baptist Church of Asheville, 5 Oak Street, Asheville, North Carolina 28801. Family and friends are invited to join us following the memorial service as we celebrate her joyous life which was lived with integrity, grace and in constant recognition of Gods unconditional love.
