Donald Ray Hawkins

Candler - Donald Ray Hawkins, 73, of Candler, NC went home to Heaven on February 4, 2011. Don was born in Buncombe County and was the son of the late Clinton and Julia Hawkins. He was preceded in death by 5 siblings. Don leaves behind the love of his life, his wife of 52 years, Florence Hicks Hawkins. Don's children are Danny, Kathy, Mark, and Donna, all of Candler. Don loved his nine grandchildren more than life itself: Tim, Ali, Chris, Kaycie, Kevin, Anna, Abi, Sara, and Carson. Don is also survived by siblings Billy Hawkins of Candler, Gaynell Baldwin of Candler, Howard Hawkins of St. Cloud, FL, and Alma Lee MeHaffey of Greer, SC. Don worked at Burlington Mill most of his career. After the Mill closed, he became the best Real Estate Rehabber in Western North Carolina. His #1 goal was to provide for his family, and he did it well. Don was a member of Liberty Baptist Church. Don loved to help people. He was always looking for ways to bless others; whether it was mowing their yard, taking a load of wood, bringing a meal that Florence cooked, or just dropping by to chat. He was an avid fan of NASCAR. Visitation for family and friends will be held at Anders-Rice Funeral Home at 10AM on Monday, February 7th. Funeral service will be at 11AM. Private graveside services will be held at a later time. Anyone can look at Don and Florence's yard and see Don's love of flowers, so flowers will be accepted and appreciated.
