Mt. Airy, NC – Donald Paul Wilson, 56, passed away Thursday, September 3, 2020 at his home in Mt. Airy. A native of Buncombe County, Donald had resided in Mt. Airy for the past 4 years. He was the former owner/operator of his own mechanic’s shop in Swannanoa, and most recently, worked in maintenance in commercial construction. Donald was an avid NASCAR fan, loved hunting, fishing, and other outdoor activities, and was well known for being a “Jack-of-all-trades”, always looking for ways to invent or modify existing mechanical products to make them better. He will always be remembered as a man who was always ready and willing to help a family member of friend. Donald was the son of the late Donald Bruce and Elizabeth Marie Higgins Wilson. He was also preceded in death by a step-son, Matthew Surratt. Surviving are his longtime, loving companion, Amanda Clubb; son, Dustin Wilson; step-children: Joe Surratt and Tasha Wright; seven grandchildren; sister, Patricia Wilkerson and husband Tony; and several nieces, nephews, and other extended family members and friends. Graveside services will be held at 3:00 PM Monday, September 28, 2020 at Forest Lawn Memorial Park, with the Rev. Tommy Hall officiating. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the American Diabetes Association, PO Box 15829, Arlington, VA 22215 (www.diabetes.org), or to the American Kidney Fund, 11921 Rockville Pike, Rockville, MD 20852 (www.kidneyfund.org). Anders-Rice Funeral Home is assisting Donald’s family with funeral arrangements.
