Donald Haney

Leicester Donald Dean Haney, 90, passed away Thursday, August 11, 2016 at the Care Partners John F. Keever, Jr. Solace Center. Born in Buncombe County on July 17, 1926, Mr. Haney had resided in Henderson County for several years before returning to Buncombe County. He retired from Ecusta in 1988 as a Lab Technician, and was a member of Lake Hills Church. Mr. Haney was a veteran of the US Army, being stationed in Hawaii following World War II. He was an avid hunter and gardener, and will be remembered as a loving husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend. Mr. Haney was the son of the late Commodore R. and Elsie Wood Haney. He was also preceded in death by his sisters: Christina Haney and Anna Mae Parris; and brothers-in-law: William Parris, Jr. and Tony Parris. Surviving are his wife of 64 years, Mildred Davis Haney; daughters: Donna Lynn Bain and husband James of Excel, AL, Cathy Haney, Kelley Haney and Shelley Haney, all of Leicester; grandchildren: Savannah Burns and Brayden Burns; sisters: Kathleen Parris, Trula Aiken and husband Vascal, and Virginia Stevens and husband Tom; brother, Charles Haney and wife Doris; and several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held at 6:00 PM Monday in the chapel of Anders-Rice Funeral Home, with the Rev. Everette Haney officiating. The family will receive friends following the services. Graveside services will be held at 10:00 AM Tuesday at Forest Lawn Memorial Park, with military graveside rites provided by the NC National Guard Honor Guard.
