Dimetri John Varelas, 68, went to be with the Lord on Saturday, April 14, 2018, after a short stay at the John F. Keever, Jr. Solace Center. Originally of Norfolk, VA, he resided with his beloved wife of 28 years in Mooresville, NC. He was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force and later retired from U.S. Air in 2014. He loved his job, art, his many friends, and all the people he got to help in his life. He was loved and cherished by all who knew him, and his kindness and big heart is what he was known for. He was a son of the late John Paul Varelas and Marian Chotos Varelas. He was also preceded in death by his sister Joanie Varelas. He is survived by his wife, Pauline Davis Varelas; step-sons: Kenny Sawyer and wife Janie of Asheville, and Dean Alan Sawyer of Asheville; granddaughters: Alyssa Justine Sawyer, Sarah Ann Sawyer, and Samantha Lou Sawyer; great-grandson, Aden Sawyer; sister, Angela Angel Varelas of Carson, CA; brother, Vasili Varelas and wife Katherine of Orlando, FL; and many nieces, nephews, and friends. Memorial services will be held at 6:00 PM Wednesday, April 18, 2018, in the chapel of Anders-Rice Funeral Home. The family will receive friends following services on Wednesday at the funeral home.
