Dewey P. Brown

Asheville - A native of Madison County, Dewey (DP) formerly of 18 Powers Dr. had resided in Buncombe County for most of his life. DP was a veteran of the Korean Conflict. He served on the USS WASP CV18. His tour of duty took him around the world at sea. DP was a locomotive engineer with Norfolk Southern Railway. He retired from the railroad in 1991 with 36 years of service. He was a member of BLET Division 267. DP is the son of the late Dewey Z. and Tellie Balding Brown. He is preceded in death by his wife of 58 years Joanne Baker Brown, a son Phillip Jeffrey Baker Brown, and 3 sisters. He is survived by a sister, Hazel Thomas, of Summerville, SC, daughters, Dillie Harrison (Howard) of Cibolo, TX, Barbara Williams (Bruce), of Wasilla, AK, and Kelsey Brown of San Antonio, TX. DP is also survived by a son, Dewey R Brown (Christie). He is also survived by 8 grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Jude Childrens Hospital, St. Jude Tribute Program, P.O. Box 1000, Dept. 142, Memphis, TN 38101-9908 or the Television Ministry of First Baptist Church San Antonio, 515 McCullough, and San Antonio, Texas, 78215. Services will be held at 2 PM Friday, March 18, 2016 at The Chapel of Trinity Baptist Church, 216 Shelburne Rd, Asheville, NC with Rev. Dr. Stan Welch and Rev. Davis Plemmons officiating. The family will receive friends from 12:30 to 1:45 pm Friday at the church. Burial will follow at Green Hills Cemetery with Rev. Allen Rash officiating.
