David "Gene" Owens

Asheville - David Eugene Gene Owens, 77, of 611 Emma Road died Thursday November 15, 2007 at his home. A native and lifelong resident of Buncombe County, he was a member of Georgetown Baptist Church and a Korean War veteran of the U.S. Army. He was a son of the late Simon McKinnley Owens, Sr. and Lucy Mae Hollifield Owens and the husband of the late Minda Ann Thompson Owens. He was also preceded in death by a granddaughter, Crystal Michelle Owens; grandson Jonathan David Owens and 2 great grandchildren. Surviving are his daughters, Debra Lowe and husband Phillip of Asheville, Sherry Wright and husband Donald of Leicester, Kathy Lee and husband Ricky of Asheville and Cindy Buchanan of Brevard; sons, Ronnie Owens of Leicester, Tony Owens and wife Tina of Asheville and Christopher Owens of the home; special daughter-in-law, Donna Owens; sisters, Ann Harris of Fairview and Hallie Mae King of Asheville; brother, Jerry Owens of Leicester; 19 grandchildren 5 step grandchildren and 18 great grandchildren. Funeral services will be held at 3:00 P.M. Sunday at Anders-Rice Funeral Home with the Revs. Alan Rash, Jimmy Dykes and Lee Davis officiating. Burial will be in the Corinth Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 7 to 9:00 P.M. Saturday at the funeral home.
