Asheville - Charles David Deal, 76, went to be with his Lord Friday, July 4, 2008 at the St. Joseph Campus of Mission Hospitals. Mr. Deals greatest passions in life were his family and his church, Asheville Freewill Baptist Church, of which he was a Deacon; but his greatest source of pride was his grandson, Jacob. He was an avid hunter and fisherman. He was a Sergeant in the US Army, where he obtained the grade of Expert Marksman. He retired from Sears after 42 years of service. Mr. Deal was the son of the late Van and Jessie Dean Deal, and was also preceded in death by his in-laws, Carl and Irene Dockery. Surviving are his wife of 58 years, Peggy Deal; son, Jeff Deal and wife Karen of Asheville; daughter, Janet Deal Macias and special friend Bryan Womack of Asheville; grandson, Jacob Deal of Asheville; brother, Jerry Deal and wife Barbara of Asheville; sister, Carol Chambers and husband Joe of Beaverdam, VA; several nephews and his extended church family. Funeral services will be held at 10 AM Monday at Asheville Freewill Baptist Church with the Rev. David Gentry, Sr. officiating. Burial will follow in Ashelawn Gardens of Memory. The family will receive friends from 6-8 PM Sunday at Anders-Rice Funeral Home, and at other times at the residence. Flowers are accepted and appreciated, or memorial donations may be made to Asheville Freewill Baptist Church, 868 Jupiter Road, Weaverville, NC 28787. The family would like to extend a special thank you to the staff of the Coli ICU at the St. Joseph Campus, as well as to Dr. James Hoer.
